The research projects in which the CSRES Lab participates, as well as the research interests and directions of its faculty/staff, are branched to the following areas:

  • Design and optimization of Photovoltaic and Wind Energy Conversion Systems (autonomous and interconnected with the electric grid),

  • Optimal management of Renewable Energy Sources and maximization of the penetration of Renewable Energy Sources into electric grids or isolated power systems,

  • Design of battery energy storage systems,

  • Technologies for Smart Homes/Buildings,

  • Energy management and energy saving systems for Smart Homes/Buildings,

  • Development of water desalination systems powered by Renewable Energy Sources,

  • Power Electronics,

  • Electronic systems for energy maximization and management for Renewable Energy Sources, Smart grids, Microgrids and electric vehicles,

  • Sensors and electronic measurement systems,

  • Development of electronic systems based on Fuzzy Logic, Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms for industrial control applications,

  • Development of electronic systems for agricultural applications in order to minimize water consumption, optimize productivity etc.

Equipment

The research activities of the CSRES Lab are supported by high quality equipment for a wide spectrum of applications in the electrical and electronic engineering area. More specifically, there are digital storage oscilloscopes with high sampling rate, spectrum analyzers, power quality analyzers, programmable function generators, high precision multimeters, an RLC measurement bridge, controlled power supplies, ground resistance meters, soldering / desoldering stations, as well as a PCB prototyping system. Additionally, microprocessor development systems for the main microprocessor families, a logic analyzer and a pattern generator, are also available in the laboratory. The computer support of the CSRES Lab consists of an adequate number of fully equipped PCs and peripherals, such as several high-resolution data-acquisition (DAQ) cards installed in PCs. All software necessary for the operation of the above units and for the development of new applications, is also available.
